David Powell – Owner/Head Trainer
Dave is a native of Roseburg, Oregon. He graduated from Roseburg High School in 2002. Then, while studying Sports Management and playing baseball at Bellevue University in 2008 he discovered CrossFit and realized what his training had been missing. Since then he has fallen in love with its ever changing workouts and unrivaled production of results. Dave is level 1 certified as well as CrossFit Kids, CrossFit Gymnastics, and Olympic Lifting. He has also attended CrossFit’s Mobility seminar and Mat Lalonde’s nutrition seminar. Dave was an assistant coach for Roseburg Highs varsity baseball team for two years and has been giving hitting lessons for kids’ ages 10-20 for the last 4 years. Last year he helped run the CrossFit Kids program for the Melrose, Pheonix, and Cobb Street schools, working with kids from the age of 5-18. Not only does Dave strive to become a better coach day in and day out, he is also a talented athlete. He had a short stint in professional baseball and most recently placed 10th in the 2011 Northwest CrossFit Regionals, as CrossFit has reignited his desire to compete. Besides being the head adult trainer for Crossfit Roseburg Dave is also a big game guide for Jody Smith Guide service. Dave says, “CrossFit has made it possible to go into steep and deep canyons that others won’t and then come out with heavy packs of meat”. When asked what he loved most about being a CrossFit coach Dave said “there is nothing better than helping someone get a PR or helping them do something that 5 minutes earlier they said they couldn’t”.
Troy Willis – Owner/ Manager
Troy’s coaching career started in high school, where he coached and refereed soccer. Now Troy has the Level 1 CrossFit certification along with the Olympic Lifting, Gymnastics, and CrossFit Kids. He has also attended Mat Lalondes nutrition seminar. In 2009 he started working with the at risk group of kids at Phoenix Charter School to help supplement their PE program. In 2010 Willis and Powell teamed up to start a gym for adults with the goal of continuing to reach the youth in the local community. To date the two have worked with several hundred grade school students around the district and will continue building programs for the schools as well as the adult population. Troy has been quoted saying “I like helping adults reach new levels of fitness but really love working with today’s youth”. After Troy’s close friend Jody Brooks died Troy decided to create Cowboy CrossFit in his honor, a nonprofit organization designated to help kids learn about fitness. Troy is also on the Steve’s Club board, a nonprofit organization designed to reach the under privileged youth in the inner city of New Jersey.
Troy is native to Southern Oregon where he graduated from Roseburg High in 1988. He is an OSU alum and a veteran of the US NAVY. After graduating from OSU his interest turned to International Business and Finance which allowed him to travel all over the world and even live abroad for four years in Cape Town, South Africa. Upon returning to Oregon Troy found CrossFit and knew right away that this was something he needed to be doing. From that day on he has been using CrossFits constantly varied, high intensity workouts to better all aspects of his health.
